Virus Detection and Protection
Lately, there have been a number of e-mails circulating warning of impending e-mail threats. While these e-mails may or may not be warning of legitimate threats, the magnitude of the threat and the results of the virus are usually over-stated.
Generally speaking, e-mails that circulate warning messages about e-mail threats are about as useful as chain letters, like the ones that ask you to add your name to ‘x’ list for the local congressman. In fact, these warning messages (although senders usually have good intentions) can contain malicious code themselves.
The best measure of protection against computer viruses is to ensure that you have an updated anti-virus (we recommend Kaspersky) on your computer, and be wise when it comes to the e-mails you view. To play it safe, I would also recommend the following:
1. Disable the preview pane on your inbox. When you auto preview html e-mail(s), you run any malicious code (if present) contained in those e-mails.
2. Never open attachments unless 100 percent certain of the source / contents.
3. Never follow links in e-mails unless absolutely certain of the destination.
Kaspersky solutions provide complete protection against viruses, spyware, crimeware, Trojans, worms, spam, hackers, and most other types of malware and at every point of potential exposure on the network.
